Position
Position Title: OJL Trainer-Coach-Assessor – Electrical & Instrumentation
Location: Nigeria – USAN FPSO
Reports to: Training Coordinator
Work Pattern: Offshore rotational – 3 weeks on / 3 weeks off (back-to-back).
Purpose of the Role
Operating within the PACE maintenance contract on the USAN FPSO, the Electrical & Instrumentation OJL Trainer-Coach-Assessor will provide practical on-the-job training, coaching, mentoring, and competency assessment to Electrical and Instrumentation maintenance technicians and supervisors.
The position holder will assess each candidate's ability to safely, repeatedly, and consistently perform the tasks associated with their Electrical or Instrumentation maintenance role and career stage, in accordance with the required standards of performance.
The role will actively support the development of local technical capabilities through structured knowledge transfer, competency development, and targeted training programs.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical & Instrumentation Training
Identify competency gaps across Electrical and Instrumentation maintenance disciplines.
Conduct job task analyses, competency reviews, appraisal activities, and regular consultations with discipline supervisors and leads.
Develop and deliver structured On-the-Job Learning (OJL) programs.
Provide practical coaching and mentoring to Electrical and Instrumentation technicians and supervisors.
Support individual competency progression and career development.
Design and deliver advanced technical training courses when required.
Technical Coaching
Coach personnel in the safe and effective execution of Electrical and Instrumentation maintenance activities.
Provide practical guidance on maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, calibration, inspection, fault finding, repair, and commissioning-related activities relevant to the FPSO environment.
Reinforce correct technical procedures, maintenance practices, and safety requirements.
Observe work execution and provide constructive technical feedback.
Promote reliability, quality, and safe working practices.
Competence Assessment & Verification
Conduct practical and on-site competency assessments for Electrical and Instrumentation technicians and supervisors.
Assess candidates against defined competency standards and career-stage requirements.
Review and validate supporting evidence submitted by candidates.
Ensure assessment and verification activities comply with applicable international standards.
Maintain accurate assessment records and competency documentation.
Work closely with the Training Coordinator, Electrical/Instrumentation discipline leads, maintenance trainers, and PACE project personnel.
Skills Designer & Competence Management
Record all training and assessment activities in the Skills Designer Competence Management System.
Submit supporting evidence for completed training and assessments.
Ensure competency records are accurate, complete, traceable, and properly archived.
Monitor competency progression and report identified gaps.
Support the continuous improvement of competency management processes.
QHSSE & Offshore Compliance
Ensure all training and assessment activities comply with PACE/VINCI and Oil & Gas QHSSE standards.
Ensure strict compliance with Permit-to-Work requirements and applicable offshore safety regulations.
Reinforce electrical safety, isolation, and safe working practices throughout all training activities.
Ensure personnel demonstrate the required safety-critical competencies before being considered competent.
Escalate any unsafe condition, procedural deviation, or competency concern.
Stakeholder Interface
Liaise with the Training Coordinator to design, assess, and revise Electrical & Instrumentation training programs.
Interface with Electrical and Instrumentation supervisors, discipline leads, maintenance trainers, and PACE project personnel.
Provide recommendations on competency gaps, training priorities, and workforce development.
Operate independently offshore while maintaining effective communication with the wider management team.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
Experienced and motivated Electrical and/or Instrumentation trainer committed to developing technical talent.
Strong Electrical and/or Instrumentation maintenance background within the Oil & Gas industry.
Minimum 12 years of experience with an Oil & Gas multinational Operator or Service Company.
Previous experience in an Electrical or Instrumentation supervisory/lead role.
Minimum 3 years of active training experience, preferably in On-the-Job Training/Learning.
Proven experience coaching, mentoring, and assessing Electrical and/or Instrumentation maintenance technicians.
Oil & Gas production operations or maintenance experience.
Broad exposure to industrial plant and process systems.
Ability to work independently in an offshore environment.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to deliver practical and classroom-based training.
Preferably recognized competence assessment experience or qualification such as A1/L9DI/V1 or equivalent.
Desired
Previous FPSO or offshore production facility experience.
Assessor or Verifier qualification.
Exposure to international training standards and assessment/verification guidelines.
Experience with auditing.
Experience with competence management systems.
Experience supporting local workforce development and nationalization programs.
